Ancient Rome AD 80

Walk through Rome in the year the Colosseum opened, with narrated stations, in-game books and hands-on activities about engineering, numbers and daily life.

Top-down map of ancient Rome, with terracotta rooftops, the river, the oval Colosseum and the long Circus Maximus

Arrive in Rome in AD 80, the year the Colosseum opened, and explore a city built from terracotta rooftops, winding streets and grand public buildings. Follow the river, look across the Circus Maximus, and wander among hundreds of citizens, senators and marble statues.

This world is built to play with, not just look at. Buttons throughout the map play narration, and signs explain what you’re seeing. Stations in the Engineering Yard show how Roman builders lifted heavy stone with pulleys and cranes, and how aqueducts carried water using only gravity. You can also try Roman numerals and Roman timekeeping, and read eight books covering the Colosseum, engineering, water, numbers, sundials and daily life.

The world starts in Creative mode on Peaceful difficulty, with time and weather paused so that nothing disturbs your visit.

It needs Minecraft Java Edition 26.3, and it doesn’t work on Bedrock Edition or on older Java versions. The voices and character skins come from a resource pack included in the world, so choose to use it if the game asks when you open the world, and turn on Voice/Speech in your sound settings.
